Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Are there any requirements to join the Crime Watch Patrol?
Answer:

Yes,  you must be a current Seven Oaks Property Owner or currently reside in Seven Oaks.  You must be at least 18 years of age.  You must not have a criminal record.  You must follow the Standard Operating Procedures.

Question:

What do volunteers do on patrol?

Answer:

Volunteers will receive brief training on what to do on patrol.  In short, volunteers patrol the community to observe and report any criminal/suspicious activity.  This type of pro-active approach dramatically reduces crime.

Question:

Where do my donations go?

Answer:

The CWP is a Non-Profit organization. Your donation goes to cover the costs associated with running a safe and effective CWP program.  These costs include; uniforms, decals, radios, supplies, first aid kits, roadside hazard kits, patrol equipment, amber lighting guidebooks, legal fees, and more!  We greatly appreciate any donations.

Question:

Who covers the liability for the Crime Watch Patrol?

Answer:

Upon joining, each member signs a Hold Harmless/Indemnification  Agreement.  This legal document states that all members shall hold each other, the community, CDD, and any other persons involved, harmless from any such liability.  Under Florida law, the organization its self can not be held liable.  Each volunteer is legally responsible for their own actions/risks and any result thereof.

Question:

How often would I have to volunteer?

Answer:

There is no requirement on this topic, we only ask that you volunteer a few times per month.  Please consider joining.

Question:

What times does the CWP function?

Answer:

We patrol all hours of the day and night.  You can choose to volunteer any time frame.

Question:

Who drives the Crime Watch Patrol Vehicles?

Answer:

Volunteers are driving their personal vehicles, which display decals that let the community, and the Sheriff's Office, and criminals know that we are patrolling the community.  Volunteers donate their time and are asked to rotate driving their vehicles when they can, otherwise, they can ride with other volunteers.
